The London School of Economics and Political Science

London, United Kingdom

A world centre for the social sciences, where economists, policy scholars and data researchers probe how societies, markets and climates change.

Founded in 1895, the London School of Economics and Political Science is dedicated entirely to the social sciences, and its compact campus off the Aldwych punches far above its physical size in research influence. Its Centre for Economic Performance, part-funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, is one of Europe's leading applied economics laboratories, while the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment has become a global reference point for climate economics, policy and law. Alongside them sit deep strengths in social policy, media and communications, behavioural science, international development and political science, supported by major survey programmes and administrative data. LSE research moves unusually quickly from seminar room to statute book: its academics advise treasuries, central banks and international organisations, and its reports regularly shape British debates on skills, immigration, child poverty and net zero. The School's community of alumni and affiliated scholars includes many Nobel laureates in economics.
