Blakeley co-directed The Rendition Project, which produced the most comprehensive public analysis of the CIA rendition and secret detention programme. Now Vice President and Head of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Sheffield, she continues publishing on state violence, torture and accountability, including the ongoing Guantanamo detentions and military commission prosecutions.
Azzouz translates gene therapy from bench to clinic for motor neuron disease and other neurodegenerative conditions, developing viral vectors for gene replacement and gene silencing. He directs Sheffield's Gene Therapy Innovation and Manufacturing Centre, one of the few UK facilities able to produce clinical grade vectors for academic led trials.
Shaw founded the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience and directs the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, building one of Europe's largest motor neuron disease research and care programmes. Her work on the genetic subtypes of ALS underpins stratified clinical trials of gene therapies and small molecules, including tofersen for SOD1 related disease.
