Vignali chairs Pittsburgh immunology and helped define LAG-3, now the third validated immune checkpoint target in cancer therapy. His laboratory dissects regulatory T cells and T cell exhaustion across tumours and autoimmune disease, and his patents and company collaborations have carried these discoveries into clinical immunotherapy trials worldwide.

Director, Center for Vaccine Research; Professor of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics

Duprex directs the Center for Vaccine Research and studies measles, morbilliviruses, coronaviruses and avian influenza in high containment laboratories. His group produced early evidence on H5N1 persistence in raw milk on milking equipment, informing dairy biosecurity advice, and he works internationally on virus taxonomy and on public communication about virology.
