Helmi uses data from ESA's Gaia mission to reconstruct how the Milky Way was assembled, co-discovering the Gaia-Enceladus merger that reshaped our galaxy's history. A Spinoza Prize laureate, she received the 2026 Kavli Prize in Astrophysics with colleagues in Cambridge and Strasbourg, reflecting deeply collaborative work across European astronomy.
