RNA biologist who directs Heidelberg's Department of Molecular Virology. With collaborators at the Broad Institute he produced the first atlas of host proteins bound to SARS-CoV-2 RNA in infected human cells, then showed how the host protein SND1 partners with viral NSP9 to drive replication, opening new antiviral strategies for RNA viruses.
