Research at University of Freiburg is a global undertaking: the university co-authors with 1,107 institutions in 79 countries, and international collaborators appear on 46% of its output.

Its largest single research relationship is with Heidelberg University in Germany, at 1,977 joint works. Across the network, five-year output reaches 36,435 co-authored works.
