Research at Northwestern University is a global undertaking: the university co-authors with 1,135 institutions in 79 countries, and international collaborators appear on 30% of its output.

Its largest single research relationship is with Harvard University in United States, at 3,088 joint works. Across the network, five-year output reaches 56,490 co-authored works.

Connectivity of this kind is increasingly the currency of modern science, and it is measurable: the open scholarly record makes every one of these relationships public and checkable.
