Research at Freie Universität Berlin is a global undertaking: the university co-authors with 1,119 institutions in 78 countries, and international collaborators appear on 43% of its output.

Its largest single research relationship is with Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in Germany, at 9,766 joint works. Across the network, five-year output reaches 40,039 co-authored works.
