Al-Azhar University's research now spans 72 countries

Research at Al-Azhar University is a global undertaking: the university co-authors with 938 institutions in 72 countries, and international collaborators appear on 34% of its output.

Its largest single research relationship is with Cairo University in Egypt, at 1,939 joint works. Across the network, five-year output reaches 23,916 co-authored works.

Connectivity of this kind is increasingly the currency of modern science, and it is measurable: the open scholarly record makes every one of these relationships public and checkable.
