TDBEAST · Time-Domain Boundary Element Analysis and Simulation Toolkit
TDBEAST aims to develop a software framework for the time-domain analysis of transmission in strongly radiating and non-linear systems.In emerging technology in communications and imaging, the need arises to model systems that are strongly radiating and non-linear. Because of the non-linearity, modelling needs to be done in the time-domain. Modelling should be free of distortions to the geometry, the introduction of dispersion errors, and the appearance of spurious reflections at the boundary of the simulation domain. This excludes finite difference and finite element methods, leading the modeller to time-domain boundary element methods.Unfortunate, in all but the simplest of applications these methods produce unstable, and thus useless, results. Even the modelling of transmission in a single body is prone to instabilities, regardless the amount of computing resources invested. When stable solutions can be produced, the memory requirements and simulation times are usually prohibitive.Proof-of-Concept TDBEAST aims to develop an open source software package for the transient analysis of transmission in strongly radiating and non-linear systems. The PoC is made possible by results achieved in ERC CoG BET3D: (i) the stabilisation of the time-domain transmission problem by Helmholtz splitting and rescaling , and (ii) the development of memory-frugal plane wave time domain methods.TDBEAST will create innovation opportunities: commercial services can be offered such as the development of bespoke version, the provision of support in its usage, the completion of specific design assignments, and the integration of TDBEAST in existing toolchains. The package will remain free to use for non-commercial stakeholders. It will facilitate further research in the area, and be well-documented so it can be used in education and training of researchers new to the field.
