Sync-Space · Synchronising Physical & Digital Workspaces for Remote Workers’ Mental Health: An Spatial-Digital Integration Framework

HORIZONStatus: SIGNED1 June 202631 May 2028EU funding €191,918Call HORIZON-MSCA-2025-PF

Sync-Space addresses Europe's escalating mental health crisis among distributed workforces by pioneering the first systematic approach to reconceptualizing coworking spaces (CWS) as spatial-digital bridges that measurably support employee wellbeing. The project's innovation lies in developing the validated Spatial-Digital Integration Framework (SDIF)—the first evidence-based methodology for measuring person-environment fit in hybrid work contexts that integrates physical and digital work environments as unified ecosystems rather than treating them separately. Through an interdisciplinary methodology combining spatial syntax analysis, environmental psychology, and organizational behavior research, Sync-Space employs advanced GIS mapping, validated psychological instruments, and longitudinal wellbeing assessment across diverse CWS environments in Prague and Germany to identify optimal configurations supporting mental health and collaborative effectiveness. The research delivers three core outputs: i) the validated SDIF framework with standardized assessment protocols, ii) a Corporate Implementation Toolkit featuring design guidelines and workplace optimization tools, and iii) peer-reviewed publications establishing evidence-based principles for spatial-digital integration. This systematic approach creates transformative impact by establishing a new research domain scientifically, advancing EU Digital Decade objectives and the European Pillar of Social Rights societally, and enabling organizations to achieve substantial cost savings while fostering healthier, more resilient hybrid work environments across European organizations.
