SONOPLAST · New Process and Machinery for Microparts Moulding based on Ultrasound excitation

FP7Status: CLOSED1 June 200831 May 2010EU funding €880,000

The aim of Sonoplast is to enable a completely revolutionary concept of plastification and moulding process of micro and mini parts based on the use of ultrasounds to respond flexibly, reliably and cost effectively to the need of micro system suppliers for the production of complex shaped and functional μ-parts. The objective of the Sonoplast project is the development and construction of the first ultrasounds based moulding machine for the production of plastic parts in the micro and mini scale size. The development of the new machine will need the complementary production of a new concept of mould and plastic feeding system adapted to the physical principles of ultrasounds and mechanical features (kinematics) of the new moulding machine. Thus Sonoplast is a project bottom-up oriented because the involved SMEs companies cover the whole supplying chain, showing complementary skills in the product development (product design, mould making, injection moulding, injection machine manufacturing).
