SESAM2030 · SESAM2030 - science, citizens, schools and a hungry planet

The climate crisis is obvious, the nature needs protection, biodiversity is under threat and the environment needs to be taken care of. But at the same the growing planetary population needs to be fed. These are the major challenges that SESAM2030 addresses and research is a key element. Understanding & participation from citizens & youth are central elements if research are to thrive. They have not only their democratic rights to decide about research, they are also potential suppliers of data, beneficiaries in the exploitation of research results and they indispensable when it come to the behavioral change that often follows from new research. Without insight into the idea and nature of research societies will not prosper. We use the idea of ecosystems services to apply a model of nature where nature provides and can be enjoyed. Obviously these needs be balanced within planetary boundaries. We pick science cases in the domain of the bioeconomy to increase the understanding of role of research in society, young peoples interest in research careers and to counteract stereotypes of researchers. Our program unfolds in 2 editions for 22 & 23 in DK but with reach out to SE & DE. In the Edition EAST we work with 2 schools in Copenhagen (DK) & 1 in Malmoe (SE). In Edition WEST we work with 2 South Jutland (DK) & 1 in Flensburg (DE). We will be international, regional and take advantage of proximity. Schools will present the outcomes on Saturday 24 September 2022, Thursday 29 September 2022, and Saturday 12 November 2022 and on Friday 29 September in 2023. SESAM2030 develops in a pupil driven way each year over 6 weeks in parallel with the awareness raising campaign and executes on 2 occasions in Sept.: on School on Fridays & as a NIGHT-on-the-town on Saturdays. The final Saturday event (E/W) uses 5 instruments to achieve objectives: Science Shows (on stage), Sofa Talks (on Stage), Science Stations, EU corner with Young MSCA Researchers Pitches and Live Citizen Science (a Mass Experiment).
