S4PXchange · S4PXchange: Integrating Communities and Practices for a Robust, Inclusive, and Sustainable European Science-for-Policy Ecosystem
S4PXchange builds a robust and interconnected European Science for Policy (S4P) ecosystem to enhance evidence-informed policymaking across Europe. Building on the EC’s initiatives and recognising the growing urgency for effective science-policy interfaces amid complex societal challenges the project will coordinate, expand, and animate these aims forward and establish a support office for the EC’s Network of S4P Correspondents. By promoting a common understanding of the S4P concept and developing a repository of best practices, S4PXchange will enable mutual learning, capacity-building, and strategic policy dialogues at multiple governance levels. Project activities support knowledge sharing, fosters collaboration, builds collective expertise through ongoing interaction and shared experiences, and solves problems by applying collective explicit (published) and tacit (personal) wisdom to common challenges. The methodology integrates linear, relational, and systemic models of S4P interaction, guided by participatory co-creation, comprehensive mapping, and empirical approaches. Key activities include fostering digital and in-person collaboration, delivering capacity-building and mutual learning modules, and convening thematic policy dialogues. Open science and a strong CDE strategy underpin the approach, ensuring accessibility and uptake of outputs. S4PXchange targets policymakers, researchers, knowledge brokers, and civil society, ensuring long-term impact through the mainstreaming of S4P practices, strengthening the stakeholders’ capacity and institutionalising a sustainable and inclusive S4P ecosystem. The project delivers tangible outputs such as the S4P Observatory, toolkit, and policy briefs, contributing to increased connectivity, transparency, and trust in European policy development, and supporting the ERA’s objectives for robust, democratic, and evidence-informed governance.
