REWIRE · REmanufacturing with smart robotics for WIde-scale Redeployment

HORIZONStatus: SIGNED1 May 202630 April 2030EU funding €6,998,837Call HORIZON-CL4-2025-01

REWIRE aims to transform European remanufacturing by delivering an integrated, factory-level platform for high-quality, scalable, and circular remanufacturing across sectors. Its main objectives are to double the volume of remanufactured products in Europe, lower resource use and emissions, and build new skills and business models in line with EU net-zero and circular economy goals. The project achieves this by combining digital, automation, and circular economy technologies. REWIRE integrates circular-by-design methods for modular, repairable products and uses model-based systems engineering, digital twins, and data sharing for real-time, data-driven decisions. Traditional manufacturing is merged with robotics and automation to produce quality products from both new and remanufactured components.Quality assurance is central, using advanced inspection and data analytics integrated with Digital Product Passports (DPPs) for a transparent, event-driven lifecycle audit. All data follows FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles for traceability and compliance. Automated disassembly, separation, and sorting, powered by robotics and AI, enable efficient mass de-manufacturing and recovery of components.REWIRE also demonstrates circular business models, develops workforce skills, and supports standardisation. Social sciences and humanities are included to ensure inclusivity and social innovation.Fully aligned with the call, REWIRE addresses all requirements, including integration of advanced and traditional manufacturing, model-based engineering, mass de-manufacturing, quality control, FAIR data, business models, skills, and standards - positioning Europe as a leader in sustainable, circular manufacturing.
