Quantum technologies based on photons provide a promising path for building and using complex quantum photonic systems for both exploring fundamental physics and delivering quantum-enhanced technologies. While there have been impressive proof-of-principle demonstrations based upon on bulk optical elements, future technologies will require integrated optics architecture for improved performance, miniaturization and scalability. This project proposes to build a new class of quantum optics systems on a silicon chip. This integrated platform consists of integrated entangled-photon sources, high efficiency on-chip single-photon detectors and align-free quantum circuits to perform complex computing functions. This project will allow us to explore the forefront nanoscale quantum physics meanwhile simultaneously bring it to a practical engineering framework.
