The socio-economic challenges associated with the major industrial and environmental transitions of the 21th century require tackling engineering problems of increasing complexity. The PhD@Tec21 doctoral programme aims to train the next generation of experts in mechanical and process engineering. The trained fellows will become tomorrow’s leaders in strategic application areas such as environmental engineering, bio-engineering, sustainable energy, transportation, ecotech and cleantech, etc. The doctoral programme is supported by the LabEx Tec21, a well-established “Excellence Laboratory” in mechanical and process engineering at Univ. Grenoble Alpes (UGA). This will bring PhD@Tec21 unique advantages such as: (i) high-risk high-reward multidisciplinary scientific themes; (ii) cutting-edge research topics selected through an evaluation process by international experts; (iii) an extensive network of existing collaborators in both academia and industry, which will be exploited to offer secondment opportunities; (iv) highly qualified and experienced supervision teams; (v) access to state-of-the-art experimental and computing facilities. The training programme has been designed to equip the fellows with a comprehensive and balanced skillset. Mandatory secondments to international academic or industrial partners will provide further experience of the international and inter-sectoral dimensions. The acquisition of skills will be monitored through individualised Career Development Plans. Particular attention will be paid to recruitment and selection procedures carried out by external and independent experts, based on transparent criteria. Recruited fellows will be offered excellent working conditions, and will have the opportunity to pursue their project in one of the most beautiful university campuses in France.
