NANOBRIDGE · Bridging Nanostructures and Biosensing for Precision Diagnostics

HORIZONStatus: SIGNED1 November 202631 October 2030EU funding €981,960Call HORIZON-MSCA-2025-SE-01

NANOBRIDGE is a research and innovation staff-exchange network that advances biosensing by tightly integrating nanofabrication, bioresponsive functional materials, and AI-assisted analysis. We engineer smart nanostructured platforms that combine precisely patterned surfaces with adaptive biointerfaces and multimodal transduction(electrochemical, electrochemiluminescent, and FET). Lithography-driven nanomanufacturing is coupled to programmable nucleic acids , peptides, and stimuli-responsive polymers/hydrogels to yield sensors that adapt to their environment and reliably detect small molecules and biomarkers in complex matrices. Despite major advances in lithography and nanomaterials, biosensing has not fully benefited because nanotechnologists, molecular engineers, and bioanalytical scientists often work in silos. NANOBRIDGE closes this gap by co-designing geometry, chemistry, and recognition from the start, and linking them to readout through multiscale modelling and machine learning able to turn datasets into predictive design rules that guide nanogeometry, probe density, linkers, and interrogation waveforms to minimise LOD while preserving speed and robustness. The consortium unites ten partners across Europe and beyond (USA, Canada, South Africa) with two SMEs (Switzerland, Italy), ensuring that laboratory gains translate into scalable, quality-assured devices. In parallel, NANOBRIDGE is a training engine: international, intersectoral secondments and targeted schools provide early-career researchers with hands-on experience in nanolithography, smart functionalisation, multimodal readout, and AI analytics, creating a generation of well-rounded researchers equipped with the skills, confidence, and networks to thrive in diverse professional environments. This integrated approach delivers both high-performance sensing platforms and a new cohort of interdisciplinary scientists equipped to drive innovation in precision diagnostics and environmental monitoring.
