MetaChange · A decision within a decision: Exploring the psychological, electrophysiological and computational mechanisms underlying changes of mind and metacognitive judgements.
MetaChange is an original and innovative project combining large scale online psychophysics experiments, invasive electrophysiological recordings in epileptic patients and computational modeling in order to brush a comprehensive picture of the effect of post-decisional information on the cognitive and metacognitive components of decision making. The project will use a causal approach based on stimulus manipulation or direct brain stimulation to explore the effects of post-decisional information on these components of decision making, and assess how these effects unfold in time. We also aim at determining the neuronal mechanisms supporting decisional and post-decisional integration, as well as their link with metacognitive processes such as confidence ratings and changes of mind. Finally, we intend to develop a computational model of decision making rooted in evidence accumulation, accounting not only for response times and response accuracy but also for changes of mind and confidence ratings. Overall, MetaChange aims to address in an interdisciplinary and synthetic manner some of the current challenges in the field of decision making and metacognition.
