MacGhyver · Microfluidic Alkaline eleCtrolysis for Green HYdrogen Via Electrochemical Reactions
MacGhyver has refocused its activities on a compact, scalable microfluidic alkaline electrolyzer for green hydrogen production with enhanced efficiency and the use of non-precious metal contents. The immediate objective is a 1 kW modular prototype employing high-ECSA electrodes and a 30-cell (10 × 15 cm) stack, enabling 0.45 kg/day hydrogen production at 1 A/cm² and 1.8 V with an energy demand of 56 kWh/kg H2. Reduced pumping requirements (<6 kWh/kg) target a overall production cost below €11/kg. By 2028, the project aims to scale to 10–20 kW systems with industrial partners, achieving 2 A/cm² at 1.8 V and costs below €5/kg, and ultimately extend to 100 kW+ modular systems for microgrids, decentralized industry, and green ammonia.
