LIVECITIES · Crowdsourcing platform for open city innovation challenges
A Vision for Europe - The Three Os - Open Innovation 2.0 - Is a new paradigm based on a Quadruple Helix Model where government, industry, academia and civil participants work together to co-create the future and drive structural changes far beyond the scope of what any organization or person could do alone. The European Commission recognized that Open Innovation - a relatively new term coined by our chief advisor Henry Chesbrough - is an important component of the future European Innovation System, where all stakeholders need to be involved and create seamless interaction and mash-up for ideas in a single innovation ecosystems.LiveCities is an Open Innovation 2.0 crowdsourcing platform for city’s’ and citizens currently being used for open city innovation challenges by three main pilot clients. LiveCities is based on user-centric principles aiming to boost Digital innovation design and co-creation. As the Open Innovation market is recently created and quite fragmented both in terms of outcomes and players, is difficult to estimate the size of the entire market. The strongest data we could find measures the market size for support services and consulting for open innovation (based on interviewing Open Innovation Accelerators). This market was already €2.7 billion in 2013 and doubled to €5.5 billion by 2015. We have already attracted participants from the all the stakeholder groups, such as local universities, urban citizens, companies and government. For market entrance, we plan to rely in the European Network of Living Labs including active members in 20 Member States and in 5 continents. At 8WIRES we create the best conditions for collaboration between people and technology to reach higher goals. During Phase 1, we will run a technological feasibility study, assess the market particularities, validate the business model (1. freemium and 2. customized applications for closed innovation groups), evaluate the risks and create an IP plan.
