LIGHT'10 · TURN ON THE LIGHT ON SCIENCE

FP7Status: CLOSED1 April 201031 October 2010EU funding €77,000

Light’10 is conceived as a “cultural change event” that bridges the gap between the researchers involved in contemporary research and the people who will ultimately benefit from it.Using hands-on activities, demonstrations, dialogue with researchers and a general sense of festivity, Light’10 brings visitors on a fantastic tour into today’s science and technology practical uses and theoretical bases. While targeting the general public Light’10 will also be promoted within high schools, universities so to ensure a larger participations of the 16-24 years old age group with a view to change the image of science and scientists within future human resources potential.Light’10 will focus on a fascinating theme: “Science Fiction becomes Science Reality”. Light’10 aims to show that the future, as proposed by the science fiction in advertising, books and movies, is continuously shaping our daily existence. The location will be the Rome Planetarium which is per se a fascinating and friendly scientific environment. Light’10 will take place in Rome, the capital of the country, but it is not a “local” event with “local researchers” and “local” research labs involved in the activities with the public. Light’10 makes scientists from all over Italy converge on Rome. The event will last from 5 pm till midnight.Light’10 is organised around the following events:-The “Hands on workshops” within which people will interact with researchers, make experiments, listen to friendly explicative speeches-The “Globe Science Theatre” event space where researchers who take part in performing and visual arts will entertain the public.-The Planetarium and astronomical museum, where visitors will be enchanted by the show with live lectures on stars and planets and the spectacular astronomical museum.A purposely designed communication strategy will support Light’10 so to ensure its success.
