ISRANOS · Israel Night of Science
Whoever studies science and does not use it for the benefit of others is like a farmer who ploughs a field without sowing it. (Tolstoy) The proposed project intends to provide an opportunity for lively, informal interchange, between scientists/researchers and the general public of all ages in Israel. We wish to present, through a diverse range of activities, opportunities for researchers and scientists to engage in a meaningful dialogue with the general public so that we can begin to demythologize the perceived image of scientist/researcher as inaccessible, remote and aloof. By changing this image we can erode public mistrust of science and the unwillingness of young people to purse a career in research. Employing imaginative and vibrant interactive activities we will further enhance and strengthen the rich cultural heritage of science in Israel and the European Union; promote science literacy among Israelis of all ages; and encourage youngsters to pursue science studies towards a career in science and technology.
