InSilicoCAPP · In silico modelling of cold atmospheric pressure plasma on cholangiocarcinoma

HORIZONStatus: SIGNED2 January 20261 January 2028EU funding €190,219Call HORIZON-MSCA-2024-PF-01

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is an aggressive cancer with a poor prognosis, requiring complete resection for a chance at a cure. Cold atmospheric pressure plasma (CAPP) has emerged as a promising, localized treatment that minimizes damage to healthy tissue, unlike chemo- and radiotherapy. However, the interaction between CAPP and tumors remains poorly understood, particularly in controlling electric fields and reactive species during treatment. Current plasma flow models are largely 1D, 2D, or axisymmetric, while 3D in silico models can better capture tumor heterogeneity and physiological conditions. This project aims to develop a novel, open-source, full 3D multiphysics and multiscale in silico modeling platform to optimize CAPP treatment for CCA. The framework will enhance our understanding of plasma-tumor interactions, enabling precise control of treatment parameters and maximizing therapeutic efficacy while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
