The International Conference on Research Infrastructures (ICRI) is a significant event that convenes policy experts, facility managers, leading researchers, and various other stakeholders to discuss challenges and emerging trends for research infrastructures (RIs) in the global context. The aim of the project is to facilitate the organization of the ICRI 2026 conference in Rome, Italy, in October 2026.The conference will be organized by the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), the largest public research institution in Italy, which coordinates scientific research across disciplines, sectors, and regions. This effort will be in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and under the auspices of the European Commission (EC).The overall objectives of ICRI 2026 are to explore and promote the dual role of research infrastructures as:-Drivers of socio-economic impact, through developing frameworks that measure their contributions to research, innovation, regional and global development, public services, workforce skills, and broader societal benefits.-Instruments of science diplomacy, by demonstrating how RIs facilitate international collaboration, foster trust among nations, support global scientific responses, and contribute to peace, openness, and mutual understanding.Improved policy and management in the area of research infrastructures may have widespread impact across regional economies and significantly contribute to addressing global challenges.
