IANUS · Integrative MSCA Achievements and Networks for Unified Strategies
IANUS aims to maximize the strategic impact of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) on the European Union's Missions and the European Research Area (ERA). The project will conduct a large-scale portfolio analysis of all projects funded under Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, using advanced computational methods to uncover features and patterns across projects that are not identifiable through standard analytical approaches. This analysis will identify thematic clusters, particularly those related to the EU Missions, and estimate the contribution of MSCA projects to these missions. Additionally, the portfolio analysis will explore the evolution of research themes and emerging trends over time, tracking the most significant trajectories.Building on this analysis, the project will develop pilots for the two largest EU Missions: Mission 2 (Cancer) and Mission 4 (Smart Cities). It will identify projects suitable for survey analysis and pilot in-depth case studies to uncover good practices, success stories, obstacles, and solutions in MSCA projects, particularly regarding researchers' intersectoral cooperation, training, skills development, and ability to address societal challenges, including those covered by the EU Missions. An agent-based model, co-designed with stakeholders, will simulate the large-scale effects of scientists' bottom-up adaptive responses to potential policy interventions in artificial simulation scenarios. Finally, the results will form the backbone of policy development workshops and events with stakeholders, aimed at developing recommendations to enhance the policy impact of the MSCA, the exploitation of MSCA project results, intersectoral cooperation, and researchers' skills and career development. Through extensive stakeholder engagement and the dissemination of results, the project will ensure broad impact and the sustainability of its outcomes.
