FRAIMwork · preFabricated deep Renovation with a modulAr Intelligent fraMe driven by autOmated and stReamlined worKflows
FRAIMwork enhances renovation rates for small housing units through a unique, cost-effective prefabrication approach, specifically designed for small-scale, non-serial renovations. This method notably reduces renovation costs by 25% and achieves significant time savings. Effective prefabrication for non-serial small- to medium-rise renovations requires practical workflows tailored to all stakeholders. The involvement of different users and manufacturers from the project's beginning underscores a ""market-pull approach. FRAIMwork proposes the following innovations:•Developing a BIM-based digital backbone that adds value throughout the entire renovation process, integrating multi-objective optimization to balance economic, environmental, and comfort parameters.•Designing a building envelope renovation concept using circular prefabricated elements that act as carbon sinks, allowing easy installation by small local contractors with simple construction and non-sequential demounting and remounting.•Creating a visually guided installation system utilizing augmented reality and/or façade projections for installation guidance and process feedback.•Implementing a robotic system for the automatic placement of anchors, frames, and prefabricated elements.•Developing a scalable and modular on-site installation approach that combines plug-and-play boxes, decentralized envelope components, and ready-to-assemble boxes for techniques requiring on-site assembly.•Establishing realistic and innovative business models to enhance the scalability of prefabricated renovations and leverage energy communities within renovation projects.A multidisciplinary consortium, including expert centres, academic/research institutions, and industry partners, will ensure the project's successful implementation through a well-structured work plan. This plan is strengthened by demonstrations in Belgium (BE), France (FR), and Germany (DE).""
