FLUOSYNES · New nanosized metal oxy-FLUOrides: tailored SYNthesis and Energy Storage

FP7Status: CLOSED1 September 201231 August 2016EU funding €100,000

Metal fluorides display numerous fields of applications which have been boosted by the emergence of fluorine nanochemistry. This proposal aims to develop new synthesis method to prepare nanosized metal fluorides with an emphasize on the understanding of the crystal formation. This will allow a fine control of the chemical composition/structure as well as the morphology of the prepared solid which is to be used in electrochemical devices, notably Li- and Na-ion batteries. Furthermore, a mechanistic investigation of Li and Na storage capacity in such materials will be conducted through advanced physico-chemical characterizations tools (synchrotron, NMR, etc). Finally, in marge of fundamental studies, the final aim of this work is also to propose a battery prototype and to provide a scalable method to prepare new class of fluorinated materials for next generation of electrode materials having high energy density.
