The European Researchers’ Night in Slovakia is the country’s largest and most established science communication and public engagement initiative, continuously running since 2007. It connects researchers with citizens through inspiring, interactive, and inclusive formats, bringing science closer to society and strengthening public trust in research. Organised in five Slovak regions with additional activities in schools and local communities, the event ensures broad regional coverage and accessibility for diverse audiences, including pupils and students from disadvantaged and marginalised communities. The project aims to: (1) bring researchers closer to citizens and raise awareness of R&I activities among the general public; (2) support public recognition of researchers and their role in society; (3) foster understanding of how research impacts everyday life; and (4) encourage young people, with special attention to girls, to consider studies and careers in STEM and research. These goals will be achieved through direct interaction, innovative science communication formats, and nationwide outreach combining entertainment and education.Key activities include scientific shows, interactive stands, experiments, discussions, and art-science performances, as well as the Researchers at Schools initiative featuring “Visit your school – Get to know your scientist” and “Scientific Courier” programmes that bring hands-on science directly to classrooms across Slovakia. Special attention will be paid to inclusivity, gender balance among researchers, and citizen-science participation through activities “Science in a Roma settlement” and “Science trips”.The project directly contributes to the objectives of the MSCA Citizens action by strengthening citizens’ engagement with science, enhancing researchers’ communication skills, improving the visibility of EU-funded research, and inspiring the next generation of scientists and innovators.
