EMSOT · Endoscopic Multi-Spectral Optoacoustic Tomography

FP7Status: CLOSED1 February 201331 July 2014EU funding €149,460

The ERC-MSOT (233161) proposal developed a new imaging modality, termed Multi-Spectral Opto-acoustic Tomography, applied to mesoscopic biological imaging of small animals. MSOT breaks through the penetration limit of optical microscopy and can image several millimeters of tissues in-vivo at high resolution. This performance has recently attracted the interestof clinicians, in particular for the clinical application of the technology to address limitations of current endoscopic methods imaging the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. With millions of gastrointestinal endoscopies performed each year and a rising number of procedures due to colon screening programs established worldwide, advanced methods for endoscopic imaging appear preliminary as a viable commercialization opportunity. This ERC PoC proposal will therefore establish a proof of concept for the development and application strategy of endoscopic MSOT (EMSOT).
