Electronic discovery (known as e-discovery) is the electronic aspect of identifying, collecting and producing electronically stored information (ESI) in response to a request in a lawsuit or investigation. The Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) is the stablished and accepted framework by e-discovery practitioners. Commonly, the ""left-hand side"" of EDRM is used to refer to the steps containing information governance, identification, preservation and collection through legal hold requests (Hold/Preserve/Collect) and the ""right-hand side"" refers to processing, review, analysis, production and presentation (Processing/ Review/Production). Currently the market offers solutions to right-hand side of the EDRM model at the expense of the left-hand side. However, this forgotten part of e-discovery process is complex and offers multiple opportunities for errors. These errors increase operational costs, lead to potentially expensive sanctions, adversely affect the organization’s reputation and negatively affect employee morale.
