E-NIGHT · An e-Night to Remember

FP7Status: CLOSED12 June 200911 December 2009EU funding €23,000

Researchers’ Night events have been organised in Cyprus by the Research Promotion Foundation since 2006. With the e-Night project, the Research Promotion Foundation and its partners aim to organise yet another successful event in Cyprus that will contribute towards the public recognition of researchers and the development of a positive attitude from the younger generations regarding the researchers’ profession and its contribution to society. Cyprus participation in European research and especially the FP7 Thematic Priority 'Information and Communication Technologies' (ICT) has been traditionally the most popular amongst the Cyprus research community. In contrast, Cyprus population is lacking behind when it comes to usage of ICT compared to the rest of Europe’s population. In order to promote the ICT culture among the Cyprus public and especially young people, this years’ Researchers’ Night event in Cyprus will be dedicated to research in the ICT fields. The public will be given the opportunity to meet researchers, interact in a personal level and share experiences with them, in order to realise that researchers are ordinary people. Furthermore the visitors will get a grasp of the researchers’ job concerning ICT through a number of on-site and hands-on interactive activities and presentations. The activities will also include an award ceremony and be addressed to the large public, whichever their gender, age, social status or level of scientific training – politicians, public authorities, policy makers, enterprises, associations, students. Activities will offer a broad range of diversity, adapted to each particular target, and they will be organised in a relaxed and festive context.
