E-LUCID · Short-wave Infrared to Visible Light Electronic Up-Conversion for Imaging with eco-friendly III-V quantum Dots

HORIZONStatus: SIGNED1 September 202731 August 2029EU funding €194,075Call HORIZON-MSCA-2025-PF

The technology of infrared-to-visible electronic up-conversion imaging opens opportunities in night vision, low-light sensing, medical diagnostics, security, and wearable systems. However, most existing solutions are bulky, costly, or based on non-sustainable materials, which limits their broader use in compact and portable devices. The EU-funded project will develop a new generation of pixel-less short-wave infrared (SWIR) to visible up-conversion devices using RoHS-compliant III-V colloidal quantum dots (CQDs). These nanomaterials combine solution processability with tunable optical properties and provide an environmentally sustainable alternative to lead- or cadmium-based technologies. By advancing materials design and device engineering, the project will enable real-time, efficient, and stable SWIR-to-visible conversion in a lightweight and energy-efficient platform. The outcome will be a new class of imagers ideally suited for wearable night-vision tools, firefighter and defense helmets, as well as applications in healthcare, security, and environmental monitoring.
