DynamiCity · Empowering walking, cycling and micro-mobility for cancer prevention and cleaner, healthier and better-connected cities
Active and micro-mobility can significantly enhance people’s well-being, reduce risk cancer, transform urban environments, and help achieve climate neutrality. DynamiCity brings together 27 partners and 9 associated partners from 18 European countries to unlock this potential, driving a paradigm shift in urban mobility: transport becomes a strategic means to promote healthy lifestyles, improve wellbeing, and support cancer prevention and survivorship. To ensure long-lasting change, the project develops human-centred, multi-level interventions targeting 5 key levels: individual, community, digital, infrastructure & natural environment, and policy. Facilitated by behavioural and digital tools, interventions will be implemented in 12 living labs, including 6 net-zero cities. The project will support cities in achieving a >15% reduction in GHG emissions, and >30% increase in walking and cycling in 6 demonstrator areas of the 6 follower cities. Besides, the project involves >5 cities in twinning activities, to extend its benefits across Europe. By delivering tangible outcomes in infrastructure, behavioural change, interdisciplinary training, and integrated policies, DynamiCity will break silos between health and transport, paving the way for cross-sectoral, cross-European collaborations that place active mobility at the core of integrated transport and health strategies. Effectiveness will be measured through active travel uptake, reduced environmental exposure, and health-related outcomes linked to cancer prevention. Ultimately, DynamiCity will boost active travel health literacy, empower diverse target groups to incorporate walking and cycling into cancer prevention pathways, and make cities cleaner, healthier and better-connected. Results will also feed into comprehensive EU guidance on active mobility and cancer prevention, supporting Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, the Cities and Cancer Missions, and the EU Cycling Declaration. This action is part of the Cancer Mission cluster of projects on “Prevention and early detection’ and on ‘Quality of Life.
