DETROID · Dependable Software-Defined Vehicles with Resilient Powertrain and Chassis Dynamics
The DETROID project unites 15 participants from Europe (Germany, Slovenia, Belgium, Italy, France, Croatia, United Kingdom), Japan, Australia, and Vietnam. The consortium comprises academic and industrial experts in automotive engineering, computer science, systems engineering, and product/process engineering, tackling the principal challenges of software-defined vehicles (SDVs) as a fundamental aspect of future road mobility, alongside electrification and automation.DETROID concentrates on the advancement of dependable chassis and powertrain technologies for SDVs to enhance ride comfort, efficiency, and resilience. The project addresses critical research gaps, including interdisciplinary design that balances hardware limitations with software adaptability, various safety levels (functional ISO 26262, intended ISO 21448, cybersecurity ISO/SAE 21434), and advanced verification and validation methods suited for over-the-air updates and adaptive systems. The objectives encompass: identifying challenges in SDV integration; designing trustworthy systems utilising the SDV-conform ontology; developing integrated chassis and powertrain control methods for dynamic optimisation; creating adaptive algorithms, including the implementation of active sensing wheels in wheel-corner architectures; assessing impact through prototypes; and facilitating training and networking to enhance the capabilities of participating institutions. The project methodology employs model-based design, digital twins, and DevOps throughout all phases: conceptualisation, algorithm development, and prototyping. The DETROID programme fosters collaboration, promotes knowledge transfer to enhance EU leadership in SDV, and supports the career advancement of seconded staff thanks to the acquisition of advanced skills in SDV design, expansion of professional network, and overall enhancement of individual employability and leadership potential.
