CUL7 AND DIABETES · Role of the Cullin7 E3 ubiquitin ligase in insulin signaling and diabetes

FP7Status: CLOSED1 January 201131 December 2014EU funding €100,000

This grant application is formulated to explore the biological role of the Cullin7 (CUL7) E3 ubiquitin ligase in insulin signaling and its implication for diabetes. My previous work led to the identification of insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS-1) as the proteolytic target of the CUL7 E3 ligase and uncovered CUL7 as a novel regulator of insulin signaling. Based on these observations, I will employ experimental strategies as outlined in this proposal to delineate CUL7`s role for the cellular insulin response and its contribution to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
