BULCANATU · Developement of CNT doped reinforced aircraft composite parts and a ssociated tooling, using the Liquid Resin Infusion method

FP7Status: SIGNED1 August 201331 March 2016EU funding €134,691

BULCANATU project wants to develop feasible techniques for advancedand cost effective composite manufacturing of aviation parts. Thedevelopment of new epoxy resin Carbon Nanotube doping techniquescompatible with Liquid Resin Infusion will open a new era on fabricationof aerospace parts with improved mechanical properties, thanks tonanoparticles. Future aircraft manufactured with doped CNT epoxyresins, would be the increase on electrical conductivity that could lead tothe removal of cooper lightning protection mesh of advanced compositefuselage. The main issues to overcome are the dispersion and stability of the CNTover the epoxy resin, filtration phenomena within the infusion process, and the manufacture of high performance composite parts under “out ofautoclave” conditions at greater viscosities than expected. Thanks to thejoint venture between TR Composites and the Universidad Rey JuanCarlos, all aspects of the call are covered with wide experience toachieve good results.
