BRITE-EU · Boosting R&I Talent Interoperability and Employability in Europe

HORIZONStatus: SIGNED1 January 202631 December 2029EU funding €2,912,896Call HORIZON-WIDERA-2024-TALENTS-03

The BRITE-EU project aims to strengthen research and innovation (R&I) capacity in Widening countries by enhancing employability, promoting cross-sectoral collaboration, and fostering institutional reforms. Starting with the digital health sector, the project leverages the expertise of consortium members from both Widening countries and advanced innovation ecosystems, such as Spain and Sweden. This sector was chosen for its potential to address pressing healthcare challenges and facilitate cross-disciplinary research and innovation.BRITE-EU’s objectives include improving the skills and competences of R&I professionals through knowledge exchange between academia and industry. The project follows a three-phase approach: (1) Needs assessment to identify gaps and opportunities, (2) Capacity-building initiatives, such as training programs and mobility schemes, and (3) Follow-up measures, focusing on institutional reforms and return plans for seconded staff.By adopting a quadruple-helix model, BRITE-EU engages researchers, businesses, and policymakers to create collaborative ecosystems that drive innovation. The project promotes skill development, broadens career prospects, and encourages creativity among researchers. It also facilitates institutional capacity building by transferring best practices in research management, enhancing the European R&I landscape. The expected impacts of BRITE-EU include reversing brain drain, improving gender balance and equal opportunities, and increasing the attractiveness of Widening countries as destinations for excellent R&I talent. Through these efforts, the project will play a pivotal role in creating a sustainable and competitive R&I environment in Europe, ensuring that Widening countries are better integrated into the European Research Area (ERA).
