BEST · Being a European Scientist Today

FP7Status: CLOSED1 April 201031 October 2010EU funding €232,000

BEST (Being a European Scientist Today) is a 7 month project proposed by the Association Frascati Scienza (Italy) in collaboration with 2 European partners, ERASMUS MC (The Netherlands) and CERN (Switzerland), to reach the specific objective of bringing researchers closer to the public at large through the organisation and holding of the 2010 Researchers NIGHT in the area of Frascati (Rome, Italy) on Friday, 24 September 2010.The coordinator has a long and sound experience in managing the Researchers NIGHT, it has successfully organised the initiative since 2006 (respectively project COME IN in 2006, AGORA in 2007, EOS in 2008 and SAY in 2009). As a comment to the last NIGHT was that the European dimension could be given more emphasis, the innovative idea of BEST is to exhibit the European dimension of researchers and thus contribute to the implementation of the European Research Area (ERA) and to the establishment of a balanced ""brain circulation"" within Europe. The main idea governing BEST is to show that researchers are “human beings”, and furthermore that European researchers are “human beings” and all belong to one “big research family” integrated in the European society. Below are reported the aims of the initiative which will be reached through some edutrainment activities foreseen in the project focusing on the public at large and organised with researchers being actively involved and directly in contact with the public in order to: Promote the European dimension of researchers, Valorise the job “researcher”, Enhance researchers’ integration, Reinforce the links between researchers and citizens and Promote scientific studiesThe event concepts are to: Promote the aggregation process of the Frascati Scienza with the main local, national, European and internationals key actors / stakeholders of research and other activities fields, Promote the outreach of the event to young people and Endeavour the integration of the event in longer-lasting event.""
